A wealth of family attractions include a restored vintage steam railway that takes you from Swanage town centre through beautiful countryside to the historic village of Corfe Castle. The railway operates a full timetable including winter opening and offers fantastic days out for the children, including a Santa Special and Day With Thomas the Tank Engine.
Swanage offers an excellent choice of places to eat from gourmet seaside restaurants to traditional fish and chip shops, popular with many visitors. Seafood and fish is caught locally and can be purchased fresh on the day. A huge range of cafes, public houses, tea rooms and take-aways cater for every taste and are open all year round.

While fishing is likely the town's oldest industry, quarrying has been important to the town and the local area since at least the 1st century AD. During Roman times this industry grew, with the distinctive Purbeck marble being used for decorative purposes in buildings as far away as London.
